Mid-Session Newsletter
Spartans Aquatics

We hope that swimmers and families had a great restful winter break!

Spartans Aquatics have a few important messages to share with families; going through this newsletter with your swimmer is important.
Coaches stress the importance of coming prepared to practice. This means all swimmers must come to practice with a water bottle, goggles, and anything else that will help your swimmer be successful.
If your swimmer has asthma, we do ask that their inhaler be on deck where accessible to them. Please inform coaches if your swimmer has asthma and requires an inhaler.

Mini Meet: All season coaches prepare swimmers to participate in the mini meet we hold at the end of the term. This is an amazing opportunity for swimmers to showcase their skills! You must check your emails to see when the registration
deadline for the mini meet is going to be held. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our club president or any of our coaches!

Minis
Our minis have been working on being more comfortable in the water. They are working on swimming on their backs and fronts. They are also learning freestyle arms and flutter kick, and they will soon be introduced to the dolphin kick!
Our minis on Wednesdays are learning more about floating and keeping a straight body position when gliding. We are also introducing them to whip kick and will continue to progress and refine their whip kick in the future. Our main goal is to be more comfortable while swimming!

Purple
Our purple swimmers are doing amazing this session and are in the process of learning and building on new skills. Puprles swimmers are learning proper techniques for their strokes and kicks, as well as an intro into dives. Swimmers are putting in amazing effort! Please make sure that your swimmer comes to practice with a water bottle and a pair of goggles. If you are uncertain about how to find the right goggles for your swimmer, our coaches are always here to help!

Orange
Our orange swimmers have been learning lots this session! Swimmers have been able to learn key skills in swimming. The language we use at practice is very crucial for our swimmers’ understanding. Swimmers should have a firm grasp on stroke and kick terms, as well as distance turns. We will strengthen knowledge around more terms by the end of this session, such as touchturns and flipturns. We have developed skills in swimming continuously and utilized drills to strengthen technique. Please make sure that your swimmers come to practice with a water bottle and goggles.

Green
Swimmers have gone over turns for breaststroke. They are working on perfecting their pullouts for breaststroke as well. We have started butterfly and have developed
endurance for their strokes. Going forward, we will be focusing on bettering technique and building strength on our fly.
Greens have been putting in a lot of work this session overall! On Tuesdays, our coaches mainly focus on making swimmers think about what their bodies are doing during movement and why it’s beneficial. Coach Taryn tried to bring fun and new drills to practice to keep the kids challenged and entertained. Green has been able to focus on utilizing our newfound skills in different ways during practice, This includes things like distances and paces!

Blue
During our Monday Sessions, we have been focusing on stroke development with backstroke and breaststroke. We have been doing longer kick drill sets. We have been focusing on IM and practicing our IM order (fly, back, breast, and free).
On Wednesdays, the swimmers have been working a lot on butterfly and learning the basics of it. We’ll continue learning about flying and how to refine our other strokes.

Yellow
During the Wednesday and Thursday sessions, we have been working on longer sets. We have been working steadily on implementing our drills into our swim during freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. We have been focusing on building kick sets, both achieving and maintaining a high heart rate.

Masters
Our coaches are your coaches too! Please reach out if you have any questions or want a specifically tuned workout to your needs.

Junior Coach Program
Spartans Aquatics offers an amazing coaching program for our older swimmers (yellow) who may want to become a coach! This program offers a job opportunity for our older Spartans to begin the coaching process. Our trained coaches will be able to lead and mentor them through the process of becoming a coach. We currently have one older Spartan in our Junior Coach Program!

– Hi, I’m Junior Coach Becca! I started swimming with the Spartans when I was seven years old, and I am now working as a Junior Coach! As a Junior Coach, I am usually off to the side learning, observing, and writing lesson plans, and sometimes I even get to coach all by myself (with supervision in case I have a question or need help). It is such a great opportunity to get to know and coach all of your awesome swimmers.
If your swimmer is interested, please reach out to our Club President Antonia or our Head Coach Taryn.

At any point, if athletes or parents have comments or feedback on practices, please contact our head coach, Taryn spartainsaqauticscoach@gmail.com
